The wine has a superb sparkle and a beautiful explosive fruitiness, the 7% of Petit Verdots that go into the final blend bring a lot of energy to the whole. We find the immediate charm and the tasty side that make the success of Chasse-Spleen. It is already delicious.

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Transparent, shaded garnet. Round and ripe yet with good freshness. I'm tasting this straight from the cellar and it has responded well to a serving temperature of 13 °C. Very refreshing, well-balanced wine in which the tannins have receded, leaving quite a complex, minerally amalgam of mature fruit without a hint of dryness. I suspect the serving temperature has elevated this particular bottle above that tasted in October 2022.

The 2009 is the finest Chasse Spleen since the 1989. Its deep purple color is accompanied by notes of graphite, black currants, sweet spice, and a hint of Chinese black tea. Full-bodied and opulent with wellintegrated acidity, tannin, wood, and alcohol, it is a lush beauty to enjoy over the next 20+ years. (Tasted two times.) Drink 2010-2030.
