Markus del Monego MW
Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Refined nose with aroma reminiscent of freshly grated dark chocolate, vanilla, elderberries, blackberries and boysenberries, discreet flowery hints in the background. On the palate fine tannins, discreet acidty, hints of minerality adding freshness, elegant fruit and hints of mild spices lingering in the aftertaste, very well made with convincing length and wonderful tension.
Decanter
A touch of sweet oak, some rich dark fruits and subtle complexity as the layers build through the palate. Classic and well balanced, great stuff from owner Sylvie Cazes. A little reserved right now, with those 2020 tannins standing to attention, but brilliant ageing potential.
James Suckling
A firm, racy wine with a solid core of fruit and firm, chewy and polished tannins. It’s medium-bodied with attractive length.
Falstaff
Deep dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate brightening of the edges. Inviting dark forest berries, notes of blackberries, some cassis, fresh orange zest and juniper leaves. Good complexity, fresh black heart cherries, fine tannins, mineral finish, chalky texture, sticks well, cool, precise style, a multi-faceted accompaniment to dishes.
Le Figaro Vin
Robert Parker
Composed of 70% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, aging in French oak barrels, 60% new, for 15-18 months, the 2020 Chauvin has a deep purple-black color and vibrant scents of crushed black cherries, black raspberries and juicy blackberries, plus hints of violets, clove oil and dusty soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely packed with muscular black and red berry layers, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and fragrant.
Antonio Galloni
The 2020 Chauvin is soft, plummy and enticing. Inky red cherry fruit, cedar, mocha, tobacco, mint, new leather and blood orange give this mid-weight Saint-Émilion lovely complexity and tons of class. Tasted two times.
La Revue du Vin de France
VV Wine
(75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) Slightly reductive nose, deep and complex, takes time, shows smoky notes at the beginning, limestone, blonde tobacco, lots of floral notes with air. On the palate, dense but not cumbersome, medium body, very nice balance of tannin, fruit, acidity and alcohol, the elements harmonize, form a delicate and elegant Saint-Emilion. Not a blockbuster, a dancer.
Vert de Vin Magazine
Jeb Dunnuck
Tasted from multiple bottles, the 2020 Château Chauvin looks to be a superstar and boasts an already complex nose of ripe red and blue fruits, cedary incense, and chalky minerality. Beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, and just about seamless on the palate, it’s a remarkable Saint-Emilion that will benefit from short-term bottle age and cruise for two decades in cold cellars.
