Flowers, wild cherries, licorice, crushed stone and truffle aromatics create the nose. On the palate, the wine is supple, sensuous, fresh and loaded with licorice coated, red plums and juicy cherries with dark chocolate overtones in the finish.

The purity of fruit to this is really attractive with blue fruit, blackberries and flowers on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with fine tannins, a solid core of fruit and a long, attractive finish. Drink in 2022 and onwards.

A fruit built on the racy and tense vintage, notes of wood delicately modeled in the fine and aristocratic mouth. The delicate tension of the fruit is built on a small liquorice finish with fine tannin.

The 2018 d'Aiguilhe offers up a compelling mélange of inky red/purplish fruit and plenty of structure to match. It is impressive in its peer group, but also needs quite a bit of time to be at its best. The 2018 is not quite as showy as it was en primeur, and yet its energy and depth are intriguing.

Stephan von Neipperg teases out lovely richness here, as ever. It has clear oak finesse balanced by lift and succulence through the palate. The silky texture does a good job of wrapping those tannins up and giving a soft landing to the austerity. Good, perky, hedonistic and juicy.

Under the same ownership as Canon la Gaffelière in Saint-Emilion, this estate has produced a powerfully rich wine, with tannins cushioned by dense black-plum flavors. Rich in structure and driven by fruit, the wine will age well.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 d'Aiguilhe jumps up out of the glass with exuberant notes of plum preserves, Black Forest cake and blackberry pie, plus hints of potpourri, hoisin and forest floor. The medium to full-bodied palate has a soft texture and oodles of freshness supporting the mouth-coating black fruit preserves, finishing with loads of exotic spice layers.

A sleeper in the vintage, the 2018 Château d'Aiguilhe comes from the talented team of Canon-La-Gaffelière. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from the limestone soils of the Castillon region, still aging in 20% new oak, it has impressive cassis and black raspberry fruits intermixed with notions of crushed rocks, spice, and spring flowers. Pure, medium to full-bodied, with both sweet fruit and integrated acidity, it’s going to drink nicely right out of the gate yet keep for 10-15 years or more. It’s going to be a smoking value!

The nose is fruity and offers concentration, a fine grain, a small racy minerality as well as a fine concentration. It reveals notes of fleshy/fresh blackberry, fleshy/fresh wild raspberry and small notes of ripe small red berries associated with a touch of cassis, violet as wel as very fine hints of flowers (cornflower…) and discreet hints of liquorice stick. The palate is fruity, well-balanced, frank and offers a very beautiful definition, a beautiful gourmandize/juiciness, suavity, tension, gourmandize, a finely acidulous frame as well as a beautiful precision. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy black cherry, fleshy/juicy raspberry and small notes of strawberry associated with small touches of cassis, flowers as well as fine hints of toasted, chocolate and vanilla. Tannins are well-built. Good length.

Klasse-castillon, nærmest som højkvalitets-saint-emilion. Tryk på friskhed, finesse og røde bær. En helt ny stil for slottet, slet ikke den sorte sødme og fadstyring, som var engang. 400 og 600-liters fade og endda betonfade. Helt afsindig lækker.
