Seductive fragrance on the nose, perfumed, clean and pure. Rich yet direct too, I like the sleekness with clarity, energy and a vibrancy to the dark fruits edged with clove and liquorice. Tannins are firm and grippy, taking hold of the palate, showing off the muscular side. Feels well made with a full body and persistence from start to finish. Nicely approachable..

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, delicate rim brightening. Fresh orange peel, hints of cherries, plums, black cherries, delicate floral undertones. Juicy, lively structure, fresh cherries, integrated, supporting tannins, discreet sweetness on the finish, mineral and long lasting, certain ageing potential, delicately leafy on the finish.

A serious, structured vintage, the 2020 Ferrière unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, berries and plums mingled with raw cocoa and violets. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with excellent concentration and plenty of powdery tannin that asserts itself on the youthfully firm finish. This blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot, derived from a very high proportion of old vines, is a real success, but it will require patience.

Restrained, complex, floral-mineral aromas, fruity accents; full, even powerful attack, particularly dense, robust development over a supporting foundation of first-class tannins, breed and great length without noticeable alcohol; excellent, should mature.

Value pick… The fruit is a little darker in tone and actually a little softer and creamier on the nose – plump brambles, black raspberries and mulberries just plucked cleanly from their hulls, with a little hint of eucalyptus oil, rosemary and sous bois, with even a touch of chanterelles. With more air, we get bracken and gorse. Impressively compact and concentrated. On the palate, this is very lively and bright with a sparky, zesty sense of energy and fine-grained but always textural and texturing tannins, bringing interest and definition to the long mid-palate and finale. Very fresh and a vintage in which the organic and biodynamic wine-making really helps the mid-palate sing.

The 2020 Ferrière is tremendous. Dark fruit, lavender, gravel, incense and dark spice are some of the many notes that develop. A wine of vertical, explosive energy, Ferrière is fabulous. The tannins are bruising today, so readers will have to be patient, but all the ingredients are there for the 2020 to be superb. There is a feeling of unrestrained wildness in the Ferrière that is hugely appealing.

Beautiful silky texture, a certain depth with good structure. Vivid acidity, with abundant fruit concentration. Tannins are quite present, but well polished and gives a chocolaty texture, slightly astringent at the finish.
