"97 points. Opulent nose with concentrated character, blackberries, blackcurrants and ripe back cherries. Fine toasting and elegant oak." - Markus del Monego MW

"97 points. Great elegance and a peppery aromatic dimension, with powerful notes of blackcurrant and cedar." - Bettane & Desseauve

"96-98 points. The concentrated, delicately aromatic finish reveals blue berries, profound terroir-driven spice, and a noble, finely powdery astringency." - Weinwisser

"96-97 points. After years of observation, I am more certain than ever that Château Pavie is a winery made for adversity. Regardless of the vintage, it unyieldingly imprints its style into every bottle, constantly narrating the story of its limestone framework, rich spirit, and the whispers of time." - Alexandre Ma

"96-98 points. Dense, full-bodied, and rich—almost two mouthfuls of wine—with expansive fruit wrapped in a Great Wall of silky tannins … A typically powerful Pavie, but noticeably fresher than in previous vintages." - Vinum

"95-97 points. Fabulous. The southern exposition of the parcels on the famous Côte Pavie make this feel more sunny (solaire) than almost all other wines of the vintage." - The Drinks Business

Konsulterande oenolog: Michel Rolland. Andra vinet: Smaker från Pavia. Förutom Pavie och Monbousquet äger Gerard Perse den Grand Cru-klassade Pavie-Decesse.

Recensioner av EN PRIMEUR Chateau Pavie St Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe A 2024 i trækasse

97 Point

Bettane et Desseauve

"The concentration of the grapes, combined with the terroir, allows for optimal extraction of tannins and aromas, resulting in a silky texture and a well-defined structure. Great elegance and a peppery aromatic dimension, with powerful notes of blackcurrant and cedar."

97 Point

Markus del Monego MW

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Opulent nose with concentrated character, blackberries, blackcurrants and ripe back cherries. Fine toasting and elegant oak. On the palate well structured and with rich character and very good length, ripe tannins, well expressed fruit and hints of mild spices.

97 Point

Bettane & Desseauve

The concentration of the grapes, combined with the terroir, allows for optimal extraction of tannins and aromas, resulting in a silky texture and a well-defined structure. Great elegance and a peppery aromatic dimension, with powerful notes of blackcurrant and cedar.

96 Point

Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Fine ripe heart cherry, a hint of cassis and plum, delicate notes of nougat and wood, a hint of orange zest underneath. Powerful, tightly meshed, ripe fruit, fine acidity, mineral, remains persistent, chalky nuances on the finish, sure maturity and certain ageing potential.

95 Point

Decanter

Floral aromatics and dark fruits with liquorice, cola and clove aspects - almost seductive. Smooth and vibrant, this is assured despite being quite tight and a touch austere at this point. You can feel the tension and the direction but you can't fault the detail and the definition. Finessed tannins, slick and suave with ripe fruit but at the moment this is all in one line, direct and a little strict. Amazingly perfumed. Less accessible now with real bite and tang of limestone, liquorice and clove, although this carries the Pavie signature and is built for the long haul. I really like the work they're doing here and this is a success in 2024. A yield of 24.07hl/ha. Ageing 65% new oak, 35% one fill. Optical sorting. 3.69pH.

The Wine Independent

Deep garnet-purple colored. Comes barreling out with ready-to-go notes of red currant jelly, fresh black plums, and boysenberries, plus suggestions of tilled soil, cardamom, black olives, and lavender oil. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound with intense red and black berry layers, supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and minerally. Pure energy.

96-98/100

Weinwisser

Densely interwoven bouquet of fresh alpine blueberries, liquorice, and dried violets. On the second nose, graphite, Szechuan pepper, and refined cassis spice emerge. The multilayered palate presents a silky texture, tightly knit tannin structure, balanced acidity, and a finely tuned, athletic body. The concentrated, delicately aromatic finish reveals blue berries, profound terroir-driven spice, and a noble, finely powdery astringency.

Based on 51% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2024 Château Pavie is still aging in 65% new barrels. It's tight and focused at this stage, with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of black raspberries, juicy cassis, graphite, violets, and crushed stone. I love its overall purity. It has beautiful tannins, a layered, elegant mouthfeel, and a great finish. It plays in the fresher, more focused style of the vintage, yet still brings classic Pavie texture, depth, and richness.

Alexandre Ma

Château Pavie did not begin harvesting until September 27, with the team patiently waiting through rain and storms for the ideal maturity – a level of ripeness that many other estates in the 2024 vintage pursued but could not attain. As the alcohol content gently dropped to 13.71% and the intense toasted aromas faded into a delicate, rounded ripple, Château Pavie finally revealed its true essence. It is not a showy strength but a tension that quietly resides deep within the terroir; not blinding starlight, but the slow, flowing passage of time over the limestone. After years of observation, I am more certain than ever that Château Pavie is a winery made for adversity. Regardless of the vintage, it unyieldingly imprints its style into every bottle, constantly narrating the story of its limestone framework, rich spirit, and the whispers of time.

96-98/100

Vinum

The Arômes de Pavie was already impressive, but this offers even greater depth. What a bouquet—cherries, blackcurrant, blackberry, herbal tea, subtle mocha, dark chocolate, and candied orange peel. Dense, full-bodied, and rich—almost two mouthfuls of wine—with expansive fruit wrapped in a Great Wall of silky tannins. Exceptionally structured, with excellent balance and a long, highly aromatic finish. A typically powerful Pavie, but noticeably fresher than in previous vintages.

The Drinks Business

(St Emilion; 51% Merlot; 32% Cabernet Franc; 17% Cabernet Sauvignon; a final yield of 24.1 hl/ha; pH 3.68; 13.6% alcohol; tasted at the property). Very limestone in its aromatic profile and signature contributing to the sense of verticality and lift. Blueberries and black berries, brambles and fruits of the forest and, of course, those Pavie cherries.
Graphite and freshly grated dark chocolate. A hint of heather. Violet. And also just a suggestion of ferrous minerality. This is more ample than Arômes but not massively so. Very spherical in form in the mouth with almost a blackhole density at the core. Yet this is, above all, gracious, quite fluid and almost sinuous for Pavie. It tapers gently on the finish after the grip and release of the crumbly chalky tannins. Fabulous. The southern exposition of the parcels on the famous Côte Pavie make this feel more sunny (solaire) than almost all other wines of the vintage.

95-96/100

James Suckling

A very precise Pavie, this has a compacted palate of blue fruit as well as raspberries and hints of sandalwood. Medium-bodied with a tight, linear finish. Racy and fresh at the end. A blend of 51% merlot, 32% cabernet franc and 17% cabernet sauvignon.

94-96/100

Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

The darkest colored wine of the vintage opens with a bouquet of flowers, licorice, chocolate, black cherries, plums, espresso, and crushed stones. The palate is even better, showcasing depth, opulence, freshness, length, and energy, culminating in layers of dark, black pit fruits and an intense minerality that adds a salty edge, enticing you to take another sip. The wine blends 51% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13.71% ABV. Harvesting took place September 27 - October 9. Drink from 2030-2050.
