Dark ruby colour with purple reflections and brightening on the rim. Enchanting nose of tobacco interwoven in blackberry and delicate floral notes. Luscious cherry, smooth textured, well structured, mineral and zesty, nuances of cassis, balanced, with great ageing potential.

On the nose, fruity and offers concentration, freshness, delicacy as well as a certain intensity. It reveals notes of pulpy / ripe black currant, boysenberry with slight hints of violet along with blueberry, fleshy wild strawberries as well as delicate notes of camphor, black tea, pepper, and subtle wafts of nutmeg and sweet tobacco. On the palate, fruity, refined and in balance, and offers juiciness, smoothness, freshness, good definition, with a certain delicacy and finesse. The wine expresses notes of pulpy / bright blackcurrant, blackberry and slight notes of raspberry along with touches of lily, lilac, blueberry, liquorice, madagascar pepper as well as hints of chocolate, caramelization, with delicate hints of toast, vanilla, black tea and cardamom. Good length.

As the aromas take a while to come through, it's the texture and structure that strike you first. There's a lot of richness here: it's dense and opulent, polished and showy, with lots of dark plum depths, warm spice, cedar and rust. A lifted fragrance of red cherry and tomato stem emerges on the finish.

A big, velvety textured wine, especially in the vintage, the 2020 Château Quintus offers a gorgeous array of pure crème de cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as leafy herbs, graphite, and chocolate. These all carry to a full-bodied Saint-Emilion with a round, mouth-filling texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This estate has been firing on all cylinders of late, and this should be in the same realm as the 2016, 2018, and I suspect, the 2019.

The 2020 Quintus is a blend of 62.5% Merlot and 37.5% Cabernet Franc, weighing in with an alcohol of 15.4%. Displaying a deep purple-black color, it leaps from the glass with bold notes of crushed blackberries, boysenberries and stewed plums, plus suggestions of chocolate mint, clove oil, lilacs and star anise. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with rich black fruits and floral accents, framed by well-balanced acidity and finely grained tannins, finishing with great length and impressive energy. Judging from this barrel sample, this is the finest, most complex and complete Quintus yet—bravo!

Wow. This is very chalky and salty with lots of mineral character. It shows lots of purple fruit and firm tannins. Racy and bright. Chewy yet fine tannins.

Profound, noble, still, calm, sublime. Dark fruit, stone, lime, grass. On the palate, juicy, fresh, powerful, dancingly light and yet lush and round, not an ounce of fat, enormous precision, the high gradation of 15.4% perfectly packaged. Long, spicy and ripe fruity aftertaste. Excellent.
