This wine comes from one of the first of the grand estates when driving north up the Médoc. The wine brings out the brightness of the vintage as well as its structure and potential for aging. This is balanced, fruit and tannins allied with succulent acidity.

Flaskehalsen

Vi er i Haut-Medoc i Bordeaux, hvor denne 5. Cru-vin overrasker med en fin samling af nuancer, der ikke er en selvfølge i Bordeaux. For godt nok er den endnu ung og kan tåle en håndfuld år eller to i kælderen, men tanninerne er afstemte, smagen af solbær og mørke frugter er fint suppleret med lettere noter af lyse bær, og der ligger en god syrestruktur bag de beherskede frugter. Det er de klassiske druesorter, men de er håndteret med en lettere hånd, der giver et lettere udtryk. Det er en af de sjældne Bordeaux-vine, der rammer min smag. Det betyder også, at klassiske Bordeaux-fans måske finder den lidt for let og tyndbenet, men det er jo blot et spørgsmål om smag. Det er velskabt og lidt anderledes end alt det andet. Deep purple colour with violet hue and black core. Elegant and initially slightly closed nose, opening up well displaying an aroma reminiscent of ripe plums, blackcurrant jelly and chocolate coated prunes. On the palate well structured with medium body yet good length, juicy fruit and aromatic herbs lingering on the finish.

Houlberg

Op af glasset emmer det er klassiske bordeauxfile aromaer med blanding af tør cedertræ, cigarkasser og så godt med solbær blandet med brombær, godt med muldjord og fugtig skovbund. Man kan godt mærke, at det endnu er en ung bordeauxvin, hvor træet fortsat føles tørt og markant, men selvfølgelig også giver lidt fadnoter af kaffe, vanilje og tør engelsk lakrids. Som sidst er smagen lysere, friske, slankere og mere syrerig med en lyslvende og frisk frugt af tranebær, lyse kirsebær og solbær, ret lyse og tørre tanniner, der bider og snerrer uden at blive dominerende og det gælder også den let bitre og mineralske syre, der er med til at give denne stolte rygrad, struktur og levende nerve. 92 point. Decanter

Allspice, cedar, juniper and blackcurrants - a heady, appealing perfume. Lightly framed with gentle but mouthwatering and succulent red berry fruits mingling with firm tannins that coat the mouth in a fine layer of chalky, fruity saltiness. Attractive balance, if a little light on the mid-palate at this point, but this has a long finish and a motion of flavour from beginning to end. It feels well worked with concentration and direction. Structured and confident.

The 2021 Cantemerle is floral, lifted and very pretty. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, spice, mocha and licorice take shape in a wine that impresses with its delineated, persistent personality. All the elements are nicely balanced. There is a bit of tightness on the finish, but overall, this is nicely done.

Light, bright, crisp, classic, and racy, this medium-bodied, edgy, firm, red cherry, and raspberry wine is packed with herbs, flowers, peppery spices, cedar. and tobacco. This is a firm, crunchy, old-school wine that blends 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot.

The Drinks Business

Limpid, glossy and impressively viscous in the glass for the vintage. A very pure and beautiful nose – you might guess La Lagune more than Cantemerle – that is exquisitely perfumed, with cassis, bramble and raspberry, cedar and freshly picked wild herbs. Svelte and very measured on the attack, this is long and finely structured with a nice sense of grip from the chewy fine-grained tannins. There’s a good balance and harmony to this and the acidity is seamlessly integrated. One imagines that the selection was quite strict. The progress here is palpable (and likely to be continued)...

The nose is fresh, racy and shows a fine delicate power. There are notes of blueberry, lily and, to a lesser extent, pulpy strawberry, combined with fine touches of blueberry, bright redcurrant and a subtle hint of pepper (in the background). The palate is mineral, balanced and reveals a juicy/mineral structure, good definition, a certain delicacy, roundness, a beautiful minerality, freshness and a fine tension. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/fresh cherry, raspberry and slightly fresh blackcurrant combined with a touch of crisp purple plum as well as fine hints of fresh flowers, cardamom, a subtle touch of nutmeg and vanilla (in the background). The tannins are precise and mellow.
