Cellar Selection - Still dry and concentrated and with swathes of rich tannins, the wine is dark and dense. The undertow of ripe black fruit is impressive. It obviously has considerable aging potential

This wine is firm, with a dry core that needs to soften. It has spice and black-currant flavors, along with a dark aftertaste. The wine is likely to develop slowly.

The 2014 Giscours has a slightly muddled bouquet with tertiary/woodland scents infusing the broody black fruit, austere but attractive. With aeration it seems to find its groove and develop more clarity and detail. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, supple and focused. There is lovely balance and poise to this Giscours, with a tensile and precise finish that lingers long in the mouth. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Om Chateau Giscours

Det storslagna Château Giscours ligger i kommunen Labarde, i södra Margaux. Slottet disponerar över 102 hektar med grusavlagringar vars djup varierar från 2 till 8 meter. Den holländske ägaren Eric Albada Jelgersma har under de senaste två decennierna gett sina två Margaux-slott, Giscours respektive du Tertre, välbehövliga injektioner av dynamik och kapital.

Efter omfattande omplanteringar, övergång till plöjning av vingårdarna samt grundliga renoveringar av produktionsanläggningarna börjar resultaten nu på allvar visa sig. De internationella bedömningarna har sedan sekelskiftet fått ett kraftigt uppsving, och Giscours motsvarar nu åter fullt ut sin 1855-klassificering som 3. Cru Classé.
