Falstaff

Bright ruby violet colour. Fragrant, floral, of wild berries and light-coloured resin, cassis, expressive, pure, inviting. Powerful on the palate, with lots of tannin, vibrant, finely juicy, currently still very young, will develop very well.

Decanter

Fragrant and floral on the nose, rose petals and blackcurrant leaf with a hint of cinnamon and exotic spice. Juicy and lifted straight away, this has a sense of joy about it, lively and buzzing with bright acidity. Depth and structure come from the slightly tight but well defined tannins that also give a touch of spice to the expression. I love the bright red fruit aspect on the palate and the juiciness is so captivating. Ends salty with a liquorice bite and touch of spiced heat. This has potential and makes me want another glass. Excitable and characterful. From 7.5ha with 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. Ageing 18 months in small barrels and one year in bottle prior to release.

The organic 2021 Orma pours from a chunky glass bottle. The blend is 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc (with 18 months in barrique). This wine is heady and opulent with a bouquet that delivers swells of black fruit, plum, spice and floral highlights of lilac or blue flower. These aromas are delivered in waves of varying intensity. This is a proverbial food wine that calls for a dish with a high fat content. The freshness is there, and there is considerable fruit weight to pair across from grilled lamb with mint sauce. Production is 39,000 bottles.

Solid and decisive in its sensorial profile, it shows notes of black plums, blackberries, incense, hot asphalt, cinchona, wild violet, bergamot and lemongrass. Full body, perfectly ripe and well-smooth tannins and a commendably graceful finish for a powerful, muscular wine with Latin characters. Drink now or grow old.

In colour, the 2021 appears less dark and viscous than usual. The nose is deep and spicy, with a chocolaty richness, a lot of Merlot presence and aromas of bay leaf, rosemary and incense, as well as banana peel. Very youthful, reductive and full-bodied, very dense in the mouth, with seemingly blunt tannins, firmly fleshed out. The all-encompassing sweetness masks the subtle brittleness in its youth. Wiry acidity, a lot of tannin presence, plenty of wood and very little melting.

Stunning with fleshy but well-integrated tannins and a kick all the way through to a long fresh finish. Complexity and structure, supremely balanced. A top pick and great value! Ageing 18 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux then in bottle for one year before being released.

Luminous ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Intense nose with notes of cloves, some mint, fine blackberries, light earthy components in the background. Spreads great on the palate, has a lot of fine-meshed, hearty tannins, nice juiciness, crunchy fruit, long finish in the finish.

Robert Parker

A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the Orma 2020 Orma is richly concentrated and midnight black in appearance. It presents considerable intensity in terms of its ink-like flavors of wild plum, blackberry confit, dark spice and cured tobacco. The wine wraps heavily over the palate, imparting lots of important textural richness along the way. You are best off serving a wine of this depth and magnitude with a classic T-bone cut bistecca alla fiorentina.

As usual, the Orma with 15% vol. brings a good deal of weight with it, resulting in a massive, dark colour Rich in smell and less liqueur than usual, the Orma 2020 has more freshness and the fruit aromas are clearer, underlined with fresh herbs, pithy and berry-cherry orientated Tannins then still a little raw, with a glassy-steel structure. With a lot of core and body on the palate, the Orma still seems a little hollow in the middle and in need of development.
