Overall, I was impressed with the 2020 vintage … I recommend it as vintage to buy and, in many cases, it is a suave vintage to hold even longer than the bombastic 2019 vintage.

For me the White Label is the benchmark,” insists Giacomo Neri, from vineyards 350-480m all around the estate. Oh sweet volatility and humanity, so ideally constructed, driven and acclimatized. Seduction through sangiovese and keep in mind for 2020 no Ceretalto was produced, that fruit coming here instead and so benchmark indeed. Drink 2025-2034. Tasted twice, November 2024.

Really delicious fruit with cherry and berry character, as well as a hint of cedar. Creamy tannins and fresh acidity. Grapes from the Cerretalto vineyard are used here this year.

Jeg bliver helt nervøs. Næsen er så frit svævende og naturligt sød rødfrugtet, at jeg forestiller mig mangel på krop og sædvanlig brunello-bid i munden, men bare rolig. Numerisk 14 % og det sender signaler om en vis lethed og vinen er da også fyldt med søde små tørrede jordbær og tranebær. In 2020, the Neri family did not make its flagship wine, Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto. Grapes for that wine were directed to the white-label 2020 Brunello di Montalcino instead … The Casanova di Neri 2020 Brunello di Montalcino (with the white label) represents a departure from the norm. Because the Cerretalto was not produced, fruit from that vineyard with its reddish mineral-rich soils was directed here instead. For that reason, this wine is especially spicy, lifted and intense. Dark cherry fruit is followed by rusty nail, black pepper and milled spice. The wine is fermented in steel tanks, sees 20 days of skin maceration and ages in botte and tonneaux for over three years. The oak is very well integrated. This is a wine of character (with 98,000 bottles made).

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is dreamy, with a confectionary burst of sweet spice and vivid crushed black cherries complemented by rosy florals. It's juicy, opening with a sweet and sour sensation as hints of cranberry and tart citrus give way to a tactile coating of crunchy mineral tones toward the close. This resonates with tension, long and staining with a tinge of bitter blackberry and tangerine that pucker the cheeks as edgy tannins frame the finish. Gorgeous.

Det kan godt være at nogle ser White Label som som underliggende, men i min verden står den for noget meget selvstændigt. Altid åben og imødekommende og med masser af frisk og vibrerende energi. Den har syrlige kirsebær, ribs, ungdommelige tanniner og en uhyrlig kontant syre. Både levende, elegant og komplekst. Temmelig høj kvalitet i forhold til prisen.
