It takes only a few moments before you appreciate the enormity, intensity and overall beauty of this landmark wine. Cerretalto is always a high scoring expression of Brunello, but the ideal conditions of the 2007 vintage elevate it to earthly perfection. Dark and fleshy, the wine delivers ever-evolving aromas of dark fruit, chocolate, spice and tobacco. The acidity is carefully balanced against the wine's thickness and rich texture. The finish is long, luscious and elegant.

It is lively and still decidedly crisp, a wine that seems almost eternal, designed to age in the best possible way. Slightly unruly, with a kind of “damned charm” yet irresistibly beautiful, it alternates notes of raspberry, currant, cherry, sandalwood, pomegranate, blood orange, and sweet caramel. It is saline and vibrant. Clever in its evolution, it shows tannins that are still slightly gripping and a very juicy finish. It is enjoyable now, but it seems to say, “just wait and see what we can become if you give me time.” (smagt 2022)

This has always been one of my favorite vintages of this spectacular single-vineyard wine from Montalcino. In fact, I had previously scored the 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto a perfect 100-points before I started working for Robert Parker Wine Advocate. I am tempted to do the same here, save for the fact I have the memory of the 2010 vintage with that super firm and precise elegance so fresh in my mind. This wine is larger, richer and more textured. There is a broader, looser quality to this wine's fruity extraction and composition. This expression has more meat or flesh on those bones. Giacomo Neri does some of his best work in these warm vintages that add so much fruit and balsam-like intensity. The 2007 Cerretalto is drinking beautifully right now, and I have no doubt that it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. It has entered what I believe will be a long and successful drinking plateau.

Wonderful aromas of dried berries and raspberries with hints of milk chocolate and blueberries. Full body with velvety tannins and a long, delicious finish. Drink now or hold. Wonderful wine as always.

Om Casanova Di Neri

Världsmästare i Sangiovese? Casanova di Neri har skrapat ihop fler hundra poängutmärkelser än vi omedelbart kan hålla reda på. Wine Spectator säger det rakt ut: ”Verdens bedste Brunello-producent”. 1971 planterade Neri-familjen sina första vinstockar, och 1978 lanserade man sin första vin. Idag förfogar huset över 66 hektar vingårdar. Från de kallaste terroirerna, nära egendomen i nordöstra Montalcino, skördas druvor till Cerretalto och White Label, medan det berömda Tenuta Nuova görs av druvor från varmare odlingar söder om Montalcino. Medan ”White Label” hyllar den klassiska Brunello med lång lagring på stora slavonska fat, flirtar både Cerretalto och Tenuta Nuova diskret med det moderna. Båda lagras på 500-liters franska ekfat, varav dock endast 5% är nya. Tre olika uttryck av Sangiovese, tre djupt fascinerande världsklassviner.
